Thoughtful design, from the building to the spaces inside
Whether you are planning a secondary dwelling, pool house, backyard studio or selected addition, the process begins with understanding your property and how you would like the new space to work.
Suzanne Emma Designs provides a staged building-design service, from early site investigation and concept planning through to detailed drawings for consultants, building approval and construction.
You can engage me for building design, custom joinery design or both.
Secondary dwellings, pool houses, studios and selected additions
Each project is personally designed around your property, your needs and the people who will use the space.
Rather than beginning with a standard plan, I consider how the new building will relate to the existing home, garden and surrounding properties.
Building-design services may include:
-
Preliminary property and site investigation
-
Site and floor plans
-
Elevations and building sections
-
Concept options and three-dimensional views
-
Design development
-
Livable Housing consideration where applicable
-
Consultant coordination
-
Drawings for building approval
Selected residential additions may also be considered, particularly where they involve compact planning, indoor–outdoor living or integrated joinery.
Cabinetry designed as part of the space
Kitchens, kitchenettes, laundries, wardrobes, built-in storage, study areas and entertainment cabinetry can be considered as part of the building from the beginning.
This is particularly valuable in secondary dwellings, pool houses and studios, where every square metre needs to work carefully.
Joinery-design services may include:
-
Detailed cabinetry plans and elevations
-
Internal layouts and storage planning
-
Material and finish selections
-
Three-dimensional views
-
Drawings for cabinetmaker pricing and construction
-
Coordination with the overall building design
Custom joinery can also be designed as a separate service for selected residential projects.
Your project,
step by step
Before I draw anything, I research your block — checking zoning, flood maps, overlays, and council requirements — so we know what's possible before we progress any further.
Visualise your idea
Rough idea or clear brief — either is fine.
I translate your thinking into simple concept floor plans and 3D visuals so you can see what's possible before committing to far to anything.
Refine the design
Once the concept feels right,
I develop the full design as Final Concept Plans — coordinating your extension layout and joinery as one complete picture.
This is the version your builder quotes from.
Council-ready documents
Everything your certifier and engineer need to proceed.
Clear, accurate, and ready for lodgement — with no surprises, because I've researched your site from the start.
